The MDA has been apart of my family since I was very young. I started volunteering for the MDA Summer Camp back in 2009 and have been doing it ever since. I started running marathons in 2012 on my 20th birthday, ever since then I have been addicted and have ran over 30 races. In 2014, I ran the Chicago Marathon. While at the expo I met MDA Team Momentum and had a big interested in joining the team. The next year I ran two signature Team Momentum races The Chicago Marathon and the Dallas Marathon. The following year I ran four signature races; The Chicago Spring Half Marathon, The Rock & Roll San Diego Half Marathon, The Chicago Marathon and The Dallas Marthon. Last Year I ran two signature races The Ragnar SoCal Relay where I took on 25 miles in at 200ish mile race and the Colfax Half Marathon where I had the oppurtunity to push my brother through the whole race. Between all of those races I fundraised a grand total of $9000. This year I decided that I would only do one signature race. The Marine Corps Marathon!! I choose this race for many reasons. It happens to be on my birthday and the day I turn 26 years old. I have met some amazing people while running for the MDA. I run for; Devin, Henry, Cam, Reagan, David, Ava, all my summer camp campers, and Branden. My goal is to raise $2000. Help me in the fight to cure muscle disease.
Helping Kids and Adults Live Longer & Grow Stronger
MDA is leading the fight to free individuals — and the families who love them — from the harm of muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases that take away physical strength, independence and life. Together with our supporters, we’re helping kids and adults live longer and grow stronger. Here’s how:
Finding research breakthroughs across diseases
MDA takes a big-picture perspective across neuromuscular diseases to uncover breakthroughs that will accelerate treatments and cures. The power in this research approach is that knowledge and information from one disease can often yield progress in others to speed urgently needed answers for families. Here are some of MDA’s current highlights:
- Funding 200 MDA research projects in 12 countries
- Invest $75,000 every business day in research
- Awarded 103 MDA research grants in 2015 with a total funding commitment of $27.3 million
- Contributed to dozens of clinical trials now underway
- Provided care and support to 100,000 individuals
- Offered best-in-class, comprehensive care at more than 150 MDA Care Centers
- Coordinated 50,000 visits at MDA Care Centers, with families seeing multiple health care specialists in a single appointment
- Provided information to 3.6 million visitors on mda.org
