Welcome to my Muscle Walk Personal Fundraising page!
As many of you know, a month before his sixth birthday, we learned that my sweet nephew and Godson Joe has Muscular Dystrophy. For those unfamiliar with this disease, Muscular Dystrophy is a terminal illness with no known cure that affects one in every 3,500 boys. It is caused by a deficiency of the dystrophin protein in the muscles, which slowly progresses over time.
Not only has the MDA has been an amazing resource for Joe and his family, but they support research projects aimed at finding a cure for over 43 neuromuscular diseases. The MDA is the world’s leading nonprofit health organization sponsoring research seeking the causes of and effective treatments for neuromuscular diseases.
MDA sponsored research has resulted in breakthroughs in treating diseases. Even where no “cure” is available yet, MDA research has resulted in better treatments that result in increased survival and better quality of life. In the past, boys with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) died in their teens, but there are now some 40-year-old men living with the disease.
I walk for Joe, and for so many other children and families that are affected by Muscular Dystrophy. The science behind a cure has never been closer and is advancing so rapidly. There is SO much hope that the researched funded today will impact the lives of these children like Joe affected with MD now.
I am so proud to support this organization, and I invite you to donate ANY amount that you are able to support this great organization and all the research funding a cure - and giving hope for so many families.
Together, we grow stronger.
