Welcome to my Muscle Walk Personal Fundraising page!
My oldest brother Craig Wehrle was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) in September 2012, after being misdiagnosed for 13 months prior. We, his family and friends, were shocked by his diagnosis and couldn't believe that someone so full of life could develop such a disease.
At the beginning of the disease, Craig struggled each day with doing simple things like getting out of bed, taking a shower, and trying to work until July of 2012. All of us take these things for granted, but people with any neuromuscular disease know that every little task can be extremely difficult. As the months went on, everyday tasks became increasingly harder and life partner Gail had to start making the house accessible for him. A motorized wheelchair was purchased, a ramp to let him in and out of the house was built, and a chairlift to take him from one floor to the next was installed. By October/ November 2012 Craig was pretty much bedridden and was unable to do anything for himself anymore. He had declined at a rapid pace. Towards the end of his journey it took many family members to help him through each day and night. Although I had heard the term ALS before and knew it was a devastating disease, I hadn't realized the impact it has on the people affected or their family members and friends.
On December 22, 2012, surrounded by his family, Craig lost his battle with ALS. On March 30, 2014, I will walk for Craig and all of the people affected by a neuromuscular disease who are unable to walk. I hope to be surrounded by many friends and family who will help to make "TEAM CRAIG" one of the top donors again this year.
For my brother Craig -- please help me cross the Muscle Walk finish line and FINISH STRONG! Please make a donation today, and help me reach my modest fundraising goal to help support the families who depend on MDA. Together, we grow stronger.
