Dear Friends and Family,
I dedicated my poem “Miles of Time” to my brother Jimmy. It's hard to believe that Sept.2, 2013 will be the 40th Anniversary of Jimmy's passing away.
As another Labor Day weekend approaches I am reminded of the significance this day was to our family, during the earlier years. Like so many other families, we enjoyed many family barbeques and pool parties on Labor Day. We watched the Jerry Lewis telethon every Labor Day weekend, along with most families.
However, what set us apart was that my brother Jimmy was one of “Jerry’s Kids.” Jimmy had the most serious and deadliest type of this disease, Duchene’s Muscular Dystrophy. Every year, we couldn’t wait for the Telethon’s final Total on the board, while Jerry Lewis sang, “You’ll Never Walk Alone.” This song will always be a special reminder of Jimmy and the love he shared with all of us. How ironic is it that he died on the same day of the MDA telethon?
I hid from the effects of this disease, shying away from the pain, the hurt and sense of loss, for many years. I am not hiding anymore; I am now a Muscular Dystrophy Advocate. I am volunteering my time towards helping the other families affected by this disease. Please help me continue the fight against Muscular Dystrophy, by donating your dollars towards this very worthy cause.
In honor of this occasion, I started my Fundraising donation with $40.00. This represents one dollar for every year since Jimmy passed away.
Please make a donation today, and help me reach my fundraising goal to help support the families who depend on MDA. Together, we grow stronger.
Thank you-Love, Cathy
