I'm looking for friends with a heart for kids to help me send some MDA kids to summer camp. Our local Branch 9 is participating in the Twin Cities Muscle Walk to raise funds for MDA. Kids with neuromuscular disease miss out on alot of every day kid stuff. They can't run outside, participate in soccer, go to dance or play team baseball. They are left to sit on the sidelines to watch. MDA camp changes that. For an entire week, every summer, MDA kids can go to camp, paired with a PCA. They interact with kids just like them, who understand their day-to-day struggles. At camp, these kids are able to fish, play baseball and soccer with their friends in an adaptive atmosphere. They even have a dance! For many, it's the one time a year they can truly be a kid. If you could see their faces, the excitement and freedom they feel at camp - it is amazing!
When people think of donating to MDA, they think of research for cures of neuromuscular diseases. MDA is much more than that. MDA camp is one of the many support programs they provide to families. The cost of camp is approximately $1000 per child, and is free to the families, who are often buried in medical care debt. This is where you can help to make a difference. My goal is to raise $500, and our team goal is to raise enough to send several kids to MDA camp. Your donation, big or small, will help to provide a child with an experience we all take for granted. Can you spare an extra $10, $20 or more to make camp a reality?
Every day, kids are born with muscular dystrophy and adults are diagnosed with ALS and related diseases that take away their most basic freedoms – the freedom to walk, talk, hug and even breathe. Please consider making a donation to support me and the 100,000 kids and adults with muscle-debilitating diseases who will be served by MDA this year.
