I've had the honor of riding in the Trans NH bike ride for over 22 years, as many of you know it is a three day event where we bicycle 250 miles from Pittsburg NH to Portsmouth. It is not an easy ride; it is a worthy cause being a fundraiser for MDA. The funds raised stay within the community and are used to help individuals suffering from Muscular Dystrophy have a better life and get the care they need.
Each year we dedicate our ride to someone with Muscular Dystrophy disease.
Our 2018 dedicatee is Rick DiRocco, a 2-1/2 year old boy who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy at age 15 months.
Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness.
Soon after learning of his disease, the MDA contacted Rick and his family to offer support. Rick has become a part of fund-raising, one way is through the “Muscle Walk” which raises money to find a cure and send kids just like him to summer camp.
Rick loves arts and crafts, throwing a ball around, and just having fun as most 2 ½ year olds do. According to Rick's family, he spends much of his time bugging his older brother while being his best friend at the same time.
"I'm not able to jump or climb stairs and jungle gyms without my mom or dad's help, but I still have fun," says Rick. "And many firefighters are huge supporters of the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Trans NH Bike Ride; they always invite me to their “home” Fire Stations and to play in the trucks."
Would you consider making a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association this year by making a check payable to MDA, which I will deliver for you upon commencement of the ride?
You may also contribute online with a credit card by choosing the DONATE location on this page.
A donation of any size will be much appreciated, through the years I have collected contributions from five dollars to over a thousand dollars from individuals and businesses, every dollar counts and I cannot emphasize that enough. If you can donate, please make an effort to get your response in a mailbox today if sending by USPS. If you can’t donate, thank you for considering it and taking the time to read this letter.
Thank You for your consideration.
