What is a Hop-a-Thon? This free, weeklong motivational disability awareness program for young children was created by the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Short daily lesson plans enhance children’s understanding of physical disabilities and teaches 3 key principles: disability awareness, acceptance of differences and assisting others. The lessons lead up to a “hopping” fundraiser that directly benefits MDA families in the Northern and Central New Jersey area who are living with neuromuscular diseases.
The MDA Hop-a-Thon program is:
Fun, as it allows children to participate in a physical activity geared at their own pace and abilities.
Educational, as children learn about helping others, being aware that everyone is special/different.
Motivational, as it allows children to help other children who have muscular dystrophy and other neuromuscular disorders. Your children can hop for boys and girls who may be unable to hop due to their disability.
Enhances public awareness and a sense of “good will” in the community.
