Hey! Funny seeing you here!
Welcome to my fundraising page for the 2019 Chicago Marathon. After finishing the Boston Marathon in 2019, my adrenaline high sparked me to run another (!!) and I signed up for Chicago two days later. Besides the actual act of running, raising money for causes that are near and dear to my heart is exhilarating.
That's why, for my second marathon, I am running on behalf of the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Team Momentum. I'm a physical therapist, and while finishing my doctoral degree I volunteered for the MDA's summer camp as a camp counselor, and I was paired with four lovely teenagers living with MD (along with a few other PT's and OT's). The purpose of camp, is to provide a thorough, amazing outdoor experience for kids with difficulty accessing typical childhood games and activities due to their disability. At camp, we play soccer, rig boats to allow wheelchairs, have a formal dance and just let our kids be kids.
MD is a group of genetic diseases that cause progressive weakness and loss of muscle mass, most beginning in childhood, with currently no cure. Most inflicted with this disease will progress to requiring a wheelchair, and life span is shortened. Muscle-debilitating diseases such as MD and ALS are heartbreaking, and frustrating given the few treatment options. The MDA works year round to fundraise in order to fund research, provide camps like the one I attended and help families dealing with these diseases.
Any amount of support is SO appreciated, and I can't thank you all enough for being interested in this cause. Thank you!!
