I run because I can.
I run for those who can't.
I run for those I love.
Ever since starting this Run for MDA campaign and sharing my story 4 years ago (a year after being diagnosed with nemalin myopathy), I have received overwhelmiing support from everyone. I have witnessed first-hand how love conquers all. I've cheered for my dad and mom, my brothers, my CRew, my, Army, my family and friends, and countless other heroes who have run and walked for me and the MDA. I am sincerely grateful for all of you. God gave me these special muscles and trusted me with the opporutnity to fight daily, live life, and be empowered.
Before all of this, the furthest I ran was a block or a lap around the playground.
In year 2 of our campaign, I ran my first 1-mile marathon at Legoland and also ran a 400-meter sprint at Disneyland. These races were definitely tough but they gave me hope.
In year 3 of our campaign, I wheelchaired my first 1-mile marathon at Legoland and also ran a half-mile sprint at last year's Giants Race (which happened to be the first-ever MDA San Francisco race). These races were even tougher but they showed me that I'm possible.
Now in year 4, I am setting out to do my first 5K which I plan to do a run-wheelchair combo strategy. I can only get nervous as I anticipate how hard this is going to be. But I will train my best and do my best on race day to finish. Wish me luck.
Please consider making a donation or sending your cheers for me and my CRew as we run SF on September 8th.
