When AJ was diagnosed at the age of 8, in 2015, I was lost. I had no idea what I could do to help and for those of you who know me know I'm a hands on person. So, I looked up ways we as a family could help. I found the MDA site and thought to myself, I could run 13.1 miles if that meant AJ could have hope. If we could have hope.
AJ and I crossed our first finish line in the BMW Dallas half marathon in 2015, where I pushed him across the finish line. He was on cloud nine. My second half marathon was in Chicago, IL, May 2016.
I took a while off due to a back injury. Now that I am fully recovered, AJ is ready to run his next run. We are so excited to be running the 10k together as a duo team. I will push him through the 6 miles, while he gets to interact with all the Disney Characters. I cannot wait to see him smile the entire race.
I am running for him, his parents and his siblings. AJ does not let his limitations define him. He is the kid who always has a smile on his face. He is our hero.
As a member of MDA Team Momentum, I'm dedicating my miles, muscles and personal finish line to helping kids and adults living with muscular dystrophy, ALS and related muscle-debilitating diseases live longer and grow stronger.
Every step I take while training for and racing in the Disney Star Wars Rival Run will help MDA fund groundbreaking research to accelerate treatments and cures and provide care and support for families who are counting on us.
