I am running in the 2018 BMW Dallas Half Marathon to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in honor of my late husband, Richard.
Richard was diagnosed with ALS during the prime of his life. Over the course of 5 years, Richard went from being an active, athletic, and talkative man to being almost completely paralyzed and unable to speak or even swallow. He couldn't eat, drink, go to the bathroom, shower, change clothes, turn over in bed, blow his nose, or even scratch an itch by himself. Perhaps worst of all, he couldn't hug our children. He was a prisoner in his own body, and every day was a struggle to survive. But alongside us, through it all, were our family, friends, and organizations like the MDA.
Richard fought hard to defy the odds, but we lost our personal battle with ALS. However, our family and friends want to continue to help in the fight against ALS. The MDA is leading this fight. They provide medical care, medical equipment, and support groups for affected families. They invest millions in research to develop treatments that will hopefully cure this debilitating disease.
You can help in the fight, too. Come and run 13.1 miles with me!
... Or... you can make a donation to the MDA. Your donations will fund life-saving research and provide necessary support for families with ALS... Because for these families, every day is a marathon.
Please support me in my run, offer hope to families with ALS, and help create a future without ALS by making a donation in memory of Richard.
