Hello Family and Friends!
Mike and I are excited to let you know that we will be running the Chicago marathon on October 13, 2019! We are running this to raise money for a great organization, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). As you may know, I am the neuromuscular section director at UW and the MDA clinic director where I spend time taking care of patients with various nerve and muscle diseases including forms of neuropathy, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), ALS, muscular dystrophy and myasthenia gravis to name a few. Every day it is my pleasure to work with this population, as they are truly grateful for all of the help and support given to them, and these are remarkable patients with equally amazing families.
Until recently, there have not been many effective treatments for many of these conditions, but in the recent years there have been some life-changing therapies that have become available including a new gene modifying treatment for SMA. In order to help these patients and to further progress on new treatments, organizations like MDA are vital to provide support. This is why were are running this marathon with the hope to raise money to help these truly remarkable people and this great organization.
I have never done a marathon and have to admit I am a bit scared to do this. We have formed a team, “UW Neurology”, and Mike is the only one who has run this distance ever before. He has been our biggest supporter so far with constant encouragement and belief that this is attainable. We chose to run in Chicago because this is a city that Mike and I love very much and lived in for 9 years, the city where I learned the most about these conditions, and of course, because it is a very flat race!
We ask that you consider donating to MDA through our team, and if not, please just think about us on race day and cheer for us! We each have a minimum goal of $1,450, but both hope to surpass this!
Thank you all for your support, love and encouragement!
