Did you know that more than a million Americans are living with life-threatening muscle diseases today? It's true, but I'm working to change that.
Some of you know that Luke was officially diagnosed with OPMD (oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy) about 3 years ago. You wouldn’t know it to look at him and you wouldn’t pick it up while spending time with him but the symptoms are becoming more apparent. Five or ten years ago, Luke was running 13.1 mile Half Marathons, 26.2 mile Marathons, and all distances leading up to those. Unless we can find a cure for MD his days of running any distances will be a distant memory. And so, although I don’t quite enjoy running, I have decided to lace up my Newtons and get moving.
I’ve signed up to participate in Michelob Ultra Boston 13.1 Half Marathon with the Muscular Dystrophy Association's MDA Team Momentum on September 14, 2014. That means every step I take and every mile I log throughout these next few weeks of training will fuel the fight for muscle health.
How? Easy. My efforts will help advance MDA's vital mission to assist families with health care services and day-to-day support, fund research breakthroughs worldwide, and fight back against muscle disease. A cool way of looking at it: By moving my muscles, I'll be strengthening theirs.
I'm telling you all this because I'm hoping you might like to flex a little muscle in this battle too. No worries –there is no running involved for you unless you want to join me! You can donate from the sidelines. You can support my efforts by making a donation. Your support will help the Muscular Dystrophy Association bring help and hope to the families it serves.
Thanks so much, in advance, for your donation.
Together we can change the course of muscle disease forever!
